I write features that explore people's lives to reveal their struggles and triumphs. I also share my own experiences. As a wildland firefighter, I searched through swamps in Texas for remnants of the Space Shuttle Columbia after it exploded on re-entry. I also smuggled a baby into Cuba, but that's another story.
